Seventeen-year-old Sophia Long is crowned Miss Garlic 2014. Miss Long, a senior in the 2015 class at Beaumont High School represents the sixth year of Cleveland Garlic Festival. Sophia has run cross country for four years and during the school year focuses on her academics, enjoys playing guitar and ukulele, going to local shows and concerts and hanging out with close friends. This summer Sophia volunteers at a female empowerment camp in Rhode Island where she teaches guitar, leads workshops, and is in charge of media, such as the camp’s blog and Instagram.
“I really do love all the wonderful local foods,” states a smiling Sophia. Her favorite garlic dish is one that was served in a previous festival and it is a vegetarian shish kabob marinated with a garlic jelly that includes “soy sauce, brown sugar, and some other tasty ingredients.”
Come say hello to Sophia at one of our many festival events September 6th and 7th.
