CLEVELAND, OH (February 9, 2015)
"Everything's coming up garlic" at the sixth annual Cleveland Garlic Festival on September 12-13, 2015 at historic Shaker Square. This locavore's delight celebrates the culinary and health possibilities of garlic, with "Top Chef" Garlic Grill-Off Competitions, garlic beer, garlic fries and even garlic ice cream!
Cleveland Garlic Festival is a charitable event supporting North Union Farmers Market's mission of championing local foods by connecting certified producers with consumers at ten area markets. This year, North Union celebrates its 20-year anniversary with a birthday party at Shaker Square the night before the Garlic Festival, on September 11 from 6 to 9 pm.
"The Garlic Festival takes a local food and farm event to a whole new level. It's been embraced as an urban county fair – and a fabulous culinary and music event," says Donita Anderson, North Union's Executive Director. "Ohio garlic has a special quality because of the soil. This means greater health benefits and most importantly, the best garlic in the world!"
Inspired by the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, this event is the Midwest's ground zero "for all things garlic" combined with great live music. Attendees enjoy garlic-themed food prepared by Cleveland celebrity chefs, a parade with Miss Garlic, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and a stage area featuring live music from funk to jazz, Caribbean, folk, rock and a belly dancing troupe.
A children's "Mighty Locavores" area features activities for kids age 3 to 12, with a tractor maze, cooking classes, rock climbing wall, Flower Clown, "Taste the Season", "Get Growin' with Garlic" and more.
Admission to the Festival is $9 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+) and $5 for children 4 to 12 years old. Children under 4 are free. Festival hours are Saturday, September 12 from Noon to 9 pm and Sunday, September 13 from Noon to 6 pm.
